Baked masala peanuts

Spicy peanuts or masala tasty nuts are very popular.Baked masala peanuts is an easy recipe to make.Especially if you need a lot of snacks for a party or when guests are coming over.

Some people also call it as chakhna and enjoy eating it with drinks or at tea party.

It is a huge crowd favorite and also an easy snack to make.Also a great snack for travel and picnics.

Handful of peanuts mixed with spices are a great option.They are gluten-free,vegan and full of taste.Great way to spend time during any long journey.However, all market based spicy nuts are either fried or too spicy for your taste.

Also, there is a lot of weight you may put on if that becomes a habit.

Hence,It is always better to bake them at home and enjoy the crunch.


Childhood nostalgia

Mum always made this roasted peanuts for my grandpa.He was a diabetic.Always watched what he ate.She also worked long hours so ensured we never stayed hungry when home alone.Hence,we always had snacks ready for a quick bite.I appreciate all working mums who never give up kitchen.They work twice as hard for making kids feel special.

Baked masala peanuts


  • 2 cups mungphali/peanuts or groundnuts (without skin)
  • 1/8 cup chawal ka atta/rice flour
  • 1/4 cup besan/chickpea flour
  • 1/8 cup atta/wheat flour
  • 1 tsp lal mirch/red chilli powder
  • 1 tsp amchur/dried mango powder
  • ¼ tsp haldi/turmeric
  • ½ tsp garam masala
  • namak/Salt as per taste
  • 2 tbsp oil +1 tbsp for tossing
  • Water to make a thick paste


  1. Roast peanuts in a pan(low flame) or in an oven(160 C) for 15-20 minutes,keep it aside.
  2. Mix all the flour and spices to make a thick paste.
  3. Coat the peanuts with the thick flour paste.
  4. Bake for 10 minutes.
  5. Toss them in oil.
  6. Bake again for 15 minutes.
  7. Store in a clean dry air-tight container once cool.
