Wheat Tandoori Roti (no Tandoor)

We order Tandoori roti mostly when we go to restaurant.Most people love eating i Naan and Roti in main course. You may be vegetarian or Non-vegetarian everyone has a favorite.However, a hotel experience is incomplete without Roti basket.There is no better companion,be it kofta curry or your Channa masala.You can make Wholewheat Tandoori Roti (without Tandoor) for any party.Once you make it, there is no need for ordering it out.

Most people love Mughlai cuisine.Everyone has a special favorite whether it is a kebab or a biryani .Tandoori is always special. 

Wholewheat Tandoori Roti is a great recipe for a special family dinner.Also,no maida/plain flour makes it healthier and yet a favorite.

Tandoori Roti


  • 3 cups wholemeal flour
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tbsp salt
  • 1.5 tsp dry yeast
  • 1/3rd cup oil
  • 1.5 cups water


  1. In a bowl add sugar to lukewarm water.Mix well.
  2. Add dry yeast to this in order to activate it.Keep it aside for 15 mins.(You will see bubbles and froth appear.)
  3. Add yeast mixture, oil to flour,Knead well to form a tight dough.
  4. Cover and keep it aside for 1 hour.
  5. Knead again after adding salt.
  6. Take some amount of dough and roll it into thick roti/flatbread.
  7. Heat a tawa or griddle pan.
  8. Apply water on one side and place it on the tawa(Wet side should stick on pan).
  9. Let it cook on one side.
  10. Flip the pan and let the flatbread face the heat directly.(It will rise slowly)
  11. Remove from the tawa pan.
  12. Repeat the process for desired number.Serve hot with curry.
