Equipment

Ingredients

  • 3 medium potatoes preferably Russet
  • 3 tbsp. oil
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • seasoning mix of any choice

Instructions

  • Wash the potatoes well and remove any dirt.
  • Insert a wooden skewer through the centre of each potato, from one end to the other.
  • Using a sharp knife/spiral cutter, cut the potato in a spiral shape around the skewer. Keep the slices as even as possible.
  • Gently stretch the potato slices along the skewer to form a spiral.
  • Soak the potato spirals in cold water for 10-15 minutes to remove extra starch.
  • Pat the potatoes dry with paper towels.
  • Preheat the air fryer at 185°C / 365°F for 5 minutes.
  • Brush the potato spirals with oil and place them in the air fryer basket.
  • Air fry at 185°C / 365°F for 18-20 minutes. Brush with oil and seasoning halfway through cooking.
  • If the slices are thicker or the potatoes are large, cook for 5-7 minutes more until crisp and golden brown.
  • Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes

Russet type of potatoes work best for making chips at home. Here in Australia, we prefer using local variety like Royal dutch cream/ Red royal / purple/kestrel.
