We all love fried food. They are a perfect partner to tea. If you are travelling, you can just have them with bread. Cottage cheese fritters or Paneer pakoda is one of the yummiest party starters. I love making it when someone is coming home. Paneer is such a versatile ingredient. You can use blocks of paneer bread to make a pakora. Stuff fresh crumbled paneer in soft roti dough and add some spices. Voila! it turns into an amazing paratha.
Pakode or fritters is an easy starters. Everyone loves making this street food at home. Although fried food is not good if taken on daily basis, having it once a while is not a problem. Cottage cheese is a crowd favorite. People of all age groups love it. Kids can eat it and so can elders. Whether it is curry dessert of starters, there is something which everyone likes.
We make lots of pakoras in India. Be it double fried/sanna, onions, potatoes or mixed veg. Some people love the baked version too. If you have nothing at home and guests are coming over ,just go on and make some. Everyone loves it especially in rains and winter. Nothing like fritters and tea. They are my pick-me up when I am down. In most markets, you get good blocks of paneer. So you can just make them fast.

Paneer Pakoda- cottage cheese fritters
Ingredients
- ½ cup besan/chickpea flour
- 300 gm paneer/cottage cheese cut into long thick cubes
- ½ teaspoon red chilli powder
- ¼ teaspoon tumeric
- Pinch of baking soda
- Salt as per taste
- Water to make thick batter
- Oil for frying
Instructions
- Soak paneer pieces in warm water.
- Toss in 2 tablespoon chickpea flour.
- Add all dry ingredients to remaining chickpea flour and make a thick batter with water.
- In a pan,heat oil and fry them on a medium flame,until golden brown.
- Serve hot with mint chutney and tomato ketchup.
