Hasselback baked potatoes are quite a trend these days. Also, known as fried accordion potatoes, they are quite a charm. Who doesn't love a potato ? Everyone loves a spud. We all crave for it whenever we are hungry although we might resist its charm sometimes. Humble potato or aloo is a perfect vegetable. It goes with most veggies in a curry and is perfect as it is too.
Be it French fries or potato wedges, aloo tikki or curly fries. Pickiest of eaters love it. Here is a snack which looks good and tastes great and has very little calories. Yes, these are not fried but are air fried hassleback potatoes. They are lip smackingly gorgeous and perfect for your snacking too.There are other recipes that you can make with potato in the airfryer such as air fryer Potato skins , air fryer Potato chips , air fryer smashed potatoes or air fryer potato cheese balls. Ingredients
- Potatoes (Russet / Yukon Gold / Kind Edward / Idaho for best results, else lookout for Royal dutch cream/ Red royal/purple/kestrel)
- Oil
- Garlic
- oregano
- Salt as per taste
How to make hassleback potatoes in air fryer?
- Wash and remove any dirt from the potatoes.
- Place the potato alongside 2 inverted spoons. Cut the potato with the knife using the spoons to prevent from cutting all the way down through the potato
- Soak these in water again to remove any starch from the slices, else they will stick together.
- Dry it on paper towels to remove excess water.
- Preheat the air fryer at 200 deg C (390 F) for 10 mins. Brush 1 tbsp. oil on it. Air fry for 8 mins at 200 deg C (390 F).
- Mix dried oregano and garlic in 2-3 tbsp. oil.
- Apply the oil with seasoning to potatoes Air fry at 15-16 mins at 200 deg C (390 F).Total cook time of 23-24 minutes. Serve hot.
Bigger potatoes will need few more minutes(5-7 minutes more). Serve hot.
While picking these up from the air fryer, be careful as they might break off,I prefer to use a turner or a spatula to pick these up.
Top tips
Few things to note
- The air fryer has to be pre heated. Treat it just like your oven.
- Choose potatoes that are long in shape not round and are good for roasting, I prefer russet one, here in Australia I use Royal dutch cream/purple/royal blue
- Once cooked, use a spatula to pick them up, else they will break.
Variation
Vegetarians can garnish air fryer hasselback potatoes with cheese while vegans can use vegan cheese or garlic chives for garnish.
You can also make hasselback potatoes with mini potatoes.
Substitution
You can make these hassleback potatoes using sweet potato. However, cooking time will differ as they are softer.
Storage
Store it in refrigerator for 2-3 days. Always heat your food before serving.
Food safety
Always reheat your leftovers. You can air fry at 200 deg C for 2-3 mins instead of using a microwave.
