    If you're looking for a wholesome vegan cutlet that offers both texture and taste, kathal ki Tikki is a brilliant choice.Indian summer is lined with mangoes and jackfruit. Both raw jackfruit and ripe jackfruit are delicious ingredients for vegan recipes. I love making curry pickle and biryani from raw one while ripe one is used for sweets like kheer.

    Using steamed jackfruit and mashed potatoes, this patty brings a delicious plant-based twist to traditional tikki.Jackfruit has a texture quite like minced meat. If you add some meat masala, it can fool even hard core non-vegetarians. With warming spices, a crispy exterior, and a soft, flavorful center, jackfruit tikki is perfect for evening snacks, or as an appetizer.

    Ingredients for kathal tikki

    • steamed jackfruit, shredded and drained.You can also use canned raw jackfruit in brine. Drain it and use it straigtway
    • potatoes, boiled and mashed
    • Salt and black pepper to taste
    • dried mint leaves
    • ginger-garlic
    • oil spray for air frying.

    Instructions

    • Prep the jackfruit: Steam jackfruit until soft. Shred and squeeze out excess water using a muslin cloth or by pressing with a spoon.

    • Make the mixture: In a large bowl or food processor, combine steamed jackfruit, mashed potatoes, chopped green chilli optional, ginger,garlic and mint leaves.

    • Shape the tikkis: Grease your palms and shape into small discs. Freeze them in a tray lined with parchment paper.

    • Air frying: Preheat the air fryer for 5 mins at 180C| 355F.Place the frozen patties in the tray without overlap. Air fry for 20-22 mins at 180C | 355F.

    • Serve: Serve jackfruit tikki hot with mint chutney, tomato ketchup or roll into wraps. These also pair beautifully with a rich sauce or smooth gravy if desired.

    Ingredients

    Why is my tikki breaking while frying?

    This is usually due to excess water in the mixture. Squeeze your steamed jackfruit thoroughly and adjust with more corn flour or chickpea flour for better binding.

    How can I get that perfect golden brown crust?

    Cook the kathal tikki over medium flame in hot oil, flipping gently. Avoid overcrowding the frying pan.

    Can I prep this in advance?
