Farali Chiwda is a crunchy snack for teatime with a tangy taste. Fasting Mixture is one of the most loved mixtures in India. You can always enjoy a little sweet and salty mix with tea or coffee. Whether you fast or just want to have it during travel. This potato sev namkeen has a hint of green chilies, dry fruits like cashews and crunchy peanuts, rock salt, potato sticks and sabudana. Some people also add raisins or sugar for a sweet flavour. This mix is a great option even for kids who want some from your plate. Trail mixes are great for travel too. You get a good munch and crunch while you wait to reach your destination. Farari chewdo is quite a hit even without days of fasting as it has a crispy texture.
It is a perfect mix of sweet and sour. However, the farali chevdo mix available outside is fried. Fried mix is great for taste but not great for your waistline. I do love my cornflakes chiwda. However you do not need to compromise on the food you eat if you can make it at home. Here is a healthier version of this Upwas mixture which is baked ,instead of frying it in a deep frying pan .After our recent foray into the air frier recipes, we have also tried out the air fried farali chivda, hence the steps have been added to the recipe.
Travel tip: Upvas chivda is a must have from Jalaram's in Bhilai. My uncle has always treated me to this snack whenever I have been there. It has always been my favorite. Which is your favorite eatery to have this?

Variations
You may or may not add makhane or puffed lotus seeds to the above Farali Chiwda recipe. You can also make cornflakes chiwda by adding makai flakes or murmura chewda by adding roasted puffed rice. However it is not an upvas recipe. Another combination is mamara & poha with curry leaves.

Can you do this in air fryer
Gaurav says
hi Madhu
These only come out good if they are spread on the baking tray, hence they might not come out well in a air fryer.
We have not tried it, if you get encouraging results, please do share.
Thanks

I would suggest to choose big sized makhana if they get stuck for you, or maybe try roasting them in lesser quantity in multiple batches.
