Banana chips

Banana chips are an easy snack.Vegan, gluten-free and kid friendly.Great during travel and as a party starter too.

There are many chip centers in Mumbai which make them fresh day in day out.I loved buying them back home.Most of them run by Malayalis.There is a local Kerala chips center in each suburb.I love those chips,potatoes,tapioca,banana and fryums.

All in different variants of spices.With red chilli powder or black pepper.With our without spices.As spicy as possible and as bland as you need too.They are great to eat during long bus or train journeys when your mind is just idle.Call it junk but sometimes it is the best pick me up.

Now that I do not have an easy access to those,I simply make mine at home.

Chips during Navratri fasting

You can also make them for Navratre.All you need is some rock salt or sendha namak.You may make different varieties.Add amchur/dried mango powder to some while mint to others.If you like them hot,add kali mirch/black pepper to it.Spices like red chilli powder,normal sea salt,garlic are not eaten during vrat or fasting.This recipe is so quick to make.

Banana chips

Ingredients

  • 4-6 raw bananas
  • 1 tbsp rock salt/salt
  • 2 cup water
  • Oil for frying
    Spices:
  • 1 tbsp crushed black pepper
  • 1 tbsp dried mango powder
  • Salt as per taste

Instructions

  1. Peel and slice the raw bananas
  2. Soak the slices in water with 1 tbsp. salt
  3. Dry the slices on paper tissue for 1-2 hours.
  4. Fry them until crisp.
  5. Toss the slices with spices and salt.
  6. Store in an airtight container.
