However it is not a part of detox restrictions which are followed during strict fasting. Hence, it depends on the health of the person doing fasting. If you cannot do a strict fasting, eat something which is still homemade and made with ingredients you can eat during the fasting period.
I still feel eating homemade chips is better than market based as you tend to make them fresh and also know what goes in your dish. All you need is some rock salt or sendha namak. You may make different varieties. Add amchur/dried mango powder to some while mint to others. If you like them hot, add kali mirch/black pepper to it.
Spices like Turmeric , red chilli powder, normal sea salt, garlic are not eaten during vrat or fasting. But you can add them on other days.
You can cut banana pieces in shapes you like. Long flakes or circular. This crunchy recipe is so quick to make. Nothing better than it to make your day!

- 2-3 raw bananas green plantain
- 1 tablespoon salt
- 2 cups water
- 1 tablespoon oil for air frying
- Oil for frying (in traditional method)
Spices:
- 1 teaspoon turmeric powder optional
- ½ teaspoon crushed black pepper optional
- Salt as per taste
Instructions
For traditional frying
- Peel and slice the raw bananas
- Soak the slices in water with salt and turmeric (optional)
- Dry the slices on paper tissue for few minutes(10-15 minutes).
- Fry them in medium hot oil until crisp.
- Toss the slices with black pepper and salt(optional).
- Store in an airtight container.
For air fryer version (for yellow banana chips)
- I prefer to slice and airfryer banana in batches, so start with 1 banana.
- Slice bananas thinly after peeling. Add salt and turmeric to cold water, add the banana slices to water. Soak it for 30 minutes at least.
- Take the banana slices out of water, allow to dry on a paper tissue for 10-15 minutes.
- Toss the banana slices in ½ tablespoon oil
- Place the banana slices in the air fryer basket ,optionally lined with a perforated baking sheet.Pre heat the air fryer at 180C for 5 minutes, Air fry these for 6-7 minutes
- Remove the baking sheet and try to separate the chips that are sticking together, continue to airfry for further 5-6 minutes or until crisp.
- You might need to air fry few of the chips that have not been crisped completely. They would get a little more crispier when you allow them to cool down.You may further add more salt and pepper if you like.
For plain banana chips
- Toss the banana with spices and oil
- in a preheated airfryer (5 minutes at 180C), cook for 6-7 minutes,toss in the basket and cook further for 5-6 minutes or until crisp
- Once cooled down, store in air tight container. If you move them to an air tight container before they have cooled down, they will turn soggy and loose the crispiness.

You can also use an air fryer to make these crispy banana chips.They are similar to baked banana chips as we use less oil.These are one of the easiest thing to prepare in the air fryer.Keep them in an air tight container to enjoy these crispy air fryer banana chips for a longer duration.We have used turmeric for yellow banana chips, you can skip that and just make plain banana chips

- Pre heat the air fryer at 180C for 5 minutes, Air fry these for 6-7 minutes

Unlike the yellow banana chips, we can make plain banana chips much easily.Follow the below steps for making them easily.
- Cut the banana slices and toss them with oil & salt.
2. Place them in a preheated airfryer (5 minutes at 180C)
3. Cook for 6-7 minutes,toss the semi cooked chips in the air fryer basket.
4. Continue to airfry for further 5-6 minutes or until crisp
How to make plantain chips? ( Fried banana chips recipe )
- Peel the raw bananas, with a knife.
- Slice them and keep in salty water for few minutes. You may add turmeric here to get yellow ones. However, if making for fasting please avoid using haldi.
- Spread banana slices over a paper towel for few minutes.
- Fry them in hot oil, season with black pepper.
- Store them in an air tight jar.
